NYSSMA Solo & Ensemble 2026

Dates and Locations

NYSSMA sponsors an annual Solo & Ensemble Festival each Spring. During these evaluation festivals, students perform a solo or small ensemble piece for NYSSMA adjudicators, sight-read, perform selected scales or rudiments and receive a grade or rating. Along with the rating, judges write comments to assist students in improving their musical skills. Students interested in playing at these festivals need to begin preparation early and will find more success if they study with a private teacher. Contact Mr. Austin for more information. 

Performing a Solo for a NYSSMA rating allows students to become eligble to participate in many different Honor Bands throughout the state.
